Andrew & Terri Miller - Managers
We feel very strongly that God has spent the past 30 years preparing us for this job, so heres a bit of our story to date:
We were both born and raised in England, as were our 3 children, and from there we emigrated to California in 1995 and then, in 2002, we came to NZ.
After leaving school Andrew trained in Hotel & Catering Management. From cooking, employment consultant, catering supplies, to catering equipment was his career path. Andrew moved from catering sales to telecommunications and Terri graduated as an Occupational Therapist after being a stay at home mum for over 9 years.
Their time in the States was busy and exciting. Andrew completed his Associate Degree in Maths for which he chose to do a kayaking course as an elective. Terri managed to do pottery classes whilst working fulltime in rehabilitation. To keep out of mischief Andrew worked for a construction company, coached for his local rugby team and also volunteered to teach and coach rugby for troubled youths.
During the years 1995-2002 they had reconnected with the church, Andrew with First Baptist and Terri with Unity after several years in a spiritual desert. When they moved to NZ in 2002 they were desperate to find a new spiritual home that they could attend together. So they found themselves at Raleigh St Christian Centre in Cambridge, just a few blocks from their new home. They started there at the time the new hall building was started. After a few months with Community Living Trust Andrew was asked to manage 2 of their facilities, finishing there he moved to a Hamilton plumbing company, where he worked until he set up a painting business, Cambridge Painters Ltd.
Being a friendly kind of chap has led him to other business ventures including joint purchase of the old Sally Army hall in Cambridge and for which he is now Operations Manager of a small company that manages the property.
From August 2005—2008 1200 chickens laying free range eggs consumed all their spare time as they had brought a rundown 10 acre chicken farm, which needed more than TLC to get it back into the black. They closed Kentucky Meadows Ltd in June 2008 as it was no longer viable and concentrated their energy into employment, leisure and study.
Terri had graduated with a BA in English / Drama after leaving school but it was her OT training that took them to the States. After arriving in NZ and until the beginning of August 2010 Terri was employed by the Waikato DHB as a community OT and worked with all age groups. Then with Adult Mental Health Services as a Senior Occupational Therapist, providing client centered rehabilitation to people in Hamilton. She organized and managed The Studio which was the venue for arts, crafts and domestic skill building, transitional employment and had a fully functioning music studio. During her time there she developed a volunteer program and all the processes required to support it.
Andrew and Terri have been married 30 years (this past June) and have 3 great children, Madeleine, Simon and Stephanie. And to their great joy have 3 gorgeous grandchildren, thank you Maddie and Hemi, Alyssa (born February 2004) Bashi (Oct 2005) and Felicity who was born in June 2009.
They are very excited to be at KVCC and pray that God in his goodness will guide them as they move from shepherding chickens to leading children to Christ.
